Malmesbury in mourning - September 14th 2001

50 people made their way to the Abbey for the three minutes silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist incidents in America. Meanwhile people stood in silence in High Street as the clock struck 11 as a mark of respect.

At 2:00 pm a short service took place in the Abbey attended by about 50 people, including the Mayor of Malmesbury, Councillor John Bowen, who read a lesson from Chapter 8 of the Epistle to the Romans. Revd. David Littlefair, Vicar of Malmesbury, led the service, which began with a period of silence, followed by a reading of Psalm 46. Prayers were then said in memory of the victims, for help in coping with the events that have taken place, and also for our enemies that their hearts may be turned.
